Former Falcons player officiated Saints-Falcons game

Thursday night’s Saints-Falcons game ended with New Orleans coach Sean Payton charging onto the field to yell at an official, and he later ripped the officiating as “extremely poor” and “inconsistent.”

Sunday, the NFL confirmed to NBC Sports that one of the officials on that crew is a former Falcons player. Phil McKinnely, who played five seasons as an offensive lineman/tight end with Atlanta from 1976 through 1980, worked as the down judge for the game.

The Saints were flagged 11 times for 87 yards Thursday night, while the Falcons were penalized four times for 35 yards.

“Obviously, looking back through it, I thought the officiating was extremely poor, inconsistent would be a good way to put it, and I thought that had a lot to do with the way this game ended,” Payton said after the game.

The NFL is reportedly reviewing Payton’s conduct in going onto the field to yell at an official late in the game.

“Coach McAdoo told me I could continue to start while Geno and Davis are given an opportunity to play,” Manning said. “My feeling is that if you are going to play the other guys, play them. Starting just to keep the streak going and knowing you won’t finish the game and have a chance to win it is pointless to me, and it tarnishes the streak. Like I always have, I will be ready to play if and when I am needed. I will help Geno and Davis prepare to play as well as they possibly can.”

His future will include rooting like crazy for the Oregon Ducks and, having been a Top 40 AM radio DJ in high school, perhaps some voice work.

Scott also can look back on all the games he did: Among them, he was the plate umpire for Scott Erickson’s no-hitter, he worked a season-opening series in Australia, and was the last umpire to eject hot-tempered manager Billy Martin.

“He’s getting buzz as the guy,” an Adidas source said at the time the company was pitching Fox.

“Fox is the guy!” an Under Armour source texted just before their pitch meeting, perfectly on cue.

Every major brand expressed strong interest in Fox, who had been the face of Kentucky for the one season he was there and was widely perceived as potentially the fastest player in the NBA — a talent that appealed to sneaker companies, which had to make their pitches before knowing where 2017’s top prospects would land in the draft.

His overnight arrest was first reported by Pro Football Talk.

The Dolphins said they were promoting running back De’Veon Smith from the practice squad to take Maualuga’s roster spot.

Miami signed Maualuga, 30, to a one-year deal during training camp in August after he played eight years for the Bengals, including two seasons with current Dolphins defensive coordinator Matt Burke.

The good news is, with the bye week to hit the playbook and game film, plus the full assistance from both coach Mike McCarthy and Rodgers, Hundley will be in a much better position to succeed in his second pro start and beyond.

That is, assuming the Packers help their young backup quarterback with an offense that maximizes his strengths and limits his weaknesses.

Few teams in the NFL are better than the Packers at managing injuries, big and small. Unlike in 2013, the first time Rodgers had to miss time with a broken collarbone, Hundley carries more upside than Matt Flynn, Scott Tolzien and Seneca Wallace did.

Mariota is having a solid, mostly healthy year, too, but it has not been spectacular enough.

The Philadelphia Eagles scored 30 unanswered second-half points and cruised to a 37-9 win over the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday night at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

Dallas led 9-7 at halftime but Philadelphia tallied touchdowns on its first three drives in the second half to pull away.

“This is a Hall of Famer initiative,” Shestakofsky said. “That being said, we were aware of it.”

Morgan spent most of his 22-year career with the Cincinnati Reds and the Houston Astros franchise. Along with Pete Rose and Hall of Famers Johnny Bench and Tony Perez, Morgan helped the Reds win back-to-back World Series championships in 1975 and 1976. Cincinnati also reached the World Series in 1972, Morgan’s first year with the Reds.

Morgan was the National League MVP in 1975 and 1976 and was named an All-Star in each of his eight seasons with the Reds. He was a .271 career hitter with 268 home runs, 1,133 RBIs, 1,650 runs scored and 689 stolen bases, 11th most in baseball history.

The Jags made a great decision to carry Wash over from Gus Bradley’s staff. The stockpiling of talent through the draft and free agency has paid off, as the NFL’s most ferocious pass-rushing unit has been built from Calais Campbell through Jalen Ramsey. Wash, the chief architect of Sacksonville, deserves the design award.

Pederson of course has a big hand in what Philadelphia is doing to light up the scoreboard, but it wouldn’t be possible without Reich’s creative, college-like concepts for Wentz.

Gurley might not have faced enough adversity in a sophomore slump to get strong enough consideration for a true “comeback.” With J.J. Watt back on the shelf, however, these are the only two in Gronk’s rearview.

This night started with Lakers coach Luke Walton having to answer questions about LaVar Ball telling Bleacher Report that he feels the coaching staff has been too “soft” on his son. Those close to the elder Ball indicated to ESPN that he meant that the coaches could be harder on his son rather than criticizing the Lakers’ staff.

The Lakers then came out and were horrible at times in the first half, almost as if they were looking ahead to the Thanksgiving break. After playing a back-to-back set against Chicago and then a game in Sacramento on Wednesday, the Lakers have a rare four-day break before playing the Clippers on Monday.

All three teams improved to 7-2 and the Saints tied the Eagles with the season’s longest winning streak with their seventh straight victory. Saints quarterback Drew Brees didn’t throw a touchdown pass against the Bills, but he didn’t have to as the Saints ran for six touchdowns in a dominant 47-10 victory in Buffalo.

The Vikings also had an impressive road win as Case Keenum threw four touchdown passes in a 38-30 win over the Redskins. Keenum was picked twice, but a 21-point second quarter helped the Vikings hold a 28-17 halftime lead. A 7-yard touchdown pass to Jarius Wright in the third quarter extended the margin and the Vikings held off the Redskins for the win.

Then there are the Rams, who must be taken seriously as their big-play offense continues to roll with a 33-7 win over the Texans. After sputtering with just three field goals in the first half, the Rams erupted with three touchdowns in the third quarter as Robert Woods had the best game of his career. nike_bills-087

Canadiens goalie Charlie Lindgren had 26 saves.

Shore scored after taking a pass from John Klingberg and firing a wrist shot from the inside edge of the left faceoff circle. At 19:21, Spezza reached out to put in the rebound of a wrist shot by Seguin.

The Stars were also without center Martin Hanzal, who has a hand injury expected to keep him out for 3-to-7 days. The 30-year-old center’s season of injuries continues as his new ailment comes after he missed training camp with an ankle injury and another three games earlier this month with a lower-body issue.

Derek Dorsett didn’t play for the Canucks. He was sent to Vancouver for precautionary medical reasons stemming from neck and back stiffness. Dorsett missed 68 games last season after undergoing career-threatening cervical fusion neck surgery in December 2016. He has nine points in 20 games this season, along with 39 hits and a league-high 74 penalty minutes.
